Feels unsafe - Children's furniture

I want to love this chair. It was EXACTLY what I was looking for (kids version of our adult chairs) and the chair itself looks well made. My problem is that the chair does not fix well in the position settings. I have to force it into place and then it's VERY easy to smack the armrests of the chair (which then causes the backrest to fall off and can lead to serious pinky pinching). This is not ideal for a young child who moves a lot while sitting. I don't know if it's bad design or if I just lapsed but unfortunately this one is coming back :(
