Review on Microsoft Surface Pro 3 Type Cover (Cyan) by Steve Brethorst

More engagement than options, but still worth the money

Premium keyboard, very mobile and durable. Pros: - The most portable keyboard. I don't care which keyboard you should go for, nothing is more mobile than the Surface Type Cover. The keyboard as a whole adds exactly 0.2 inches of depth to the Surface Pro 3. It is so compact that it can be used anywhere my Surface is. Bathroom, travel, bookstore, fast food, friends house, another country. He goes everywhere. - Stylish appearance. This keyboard is made of high quality materials. The use of cloth in the keyboard is a very welcome change. Reminds me of a homemade soft wrist rest. The backlight on this keyboard amazes me. It's as good, if not better than my MacBook Pro Retina. It never dazzles and is never too weak. All buttons feel solid and all click fantastic. The trackpad is light years beyond what I expected. It's smooth and my finger glides over it very easily. Even the magnet that supports the keyboard seems excellent. It's durable and won't come off until I want it. communication with the surface. The keyboard "clicks" does not. He is BLOCKED. And it stays. The magnets in the connector are very strong, but not strong enough to cause damage. I love how the fabric covers most of the surface. It offers a great grip on the device and also makes it soft for people who actually carry the device around a lot. He is durable. This keyboard is very, very durable. Although it got a little dirty, mine held up surprisingly well. I was expecting the fabric to tear or wear out at some point, but so far that hasn't happened. The material does not itch or scratch. Because it's so light and thin, it also has a nice stiffness. The keyboard flexes a little when supported by a magnet, but not enough to be distracting. All in all, the keyboard is built to withstand the hazards of travel. - Dedicated row function keys. I like how Microsoft designed the line function keys with special functions. Left to right: Decrease keyboard brightness, Increase keyboard brightness, Mute, Play/Pause, Search, Share, Devices, Settings, Home, Page bottom, Page up, and Page down. Most of the time I use the settings button. - Illuminated button with capital letters. It might seem like a small thing, but all-caps backlit keys were something I've seen on my Mac, and I hate any keyboard that doesn't have it. The light is white and bright enough to be seen indoors or outdoors and while in use. Mehs: - A loop for a pen. This loop loses its grip after a while. Though it doesn't bother me too much. My case has a built in pen holder. Keyboard gets dirty. The biggest issue I've found with the cloth material covering the keyboard is that it gets dirty. Mine were put in book bags, laid on tables and touched with dirty hands. It only gets dirty. However, this does not affect the overall usability of the keyboard, only its appearance. Disadvantages: - Short key drop. Keyboards with short key travel are difficult to type for long periods of time. A mechanical keyboard is best for long typing sessions. However, for everyday use, this keyboard is fine. Small track pad. Why anyone would want to use trackpad gestures when they have a Surface touchscreen is beyond me, but yes, this trackpad is too small for gestures. If it's your business. I don't like switching from the MacBook trackpad to the Surface trackpad. The trackpad on the Surface, while just as accurate, is half the size of the MacBook. Sometimes it's really inconvenient to use. - Too flexible for some. For some, the keyboard may bounce too much when held by a magnet. There is some slight play, but personally I don't notice it. This is a duty. Contrary to what Microsoft claims, this keyboard is an absolute must. By not including it, it's just a tactic to bring Surface's base price down to a level where people can afford it. Verdict: It's a perfect match for the Surface Pro 3. It's lightweight, portable, and feels premium. However, the price is a bit high for some and the device is more of a requirement than an option. Highly recommended, but it doesn't matter if you already have a Surface. You will always buy one.

Pros
  • Convert from tablet to laptop with one touch - simply slide the Surface Pro 3 Type Cover onto your Surface Pro 3 to transform it into a versatile laptop. One of the thinnest mechanical keyboards on the market, the Surface Pro 3 Type Cover offers everything you would expect from a keyboard.
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
