I am 58 years old and have never owned a magnifying makeup mirror. Well I wish I had bought one a long time ago. The 5x magnification is ideal for applying eyeliner and mascara. I like the normal magnification pop-up system that lets you see part of the face. At first I couldn't turn on the light, but that was my problem. I was trained to hold the power buttons for 3 seconds, but this switch turns on with a light press. There is a power switch on the back of the mirror and on the bottom edge of the largest mirror. However, only the "on" button on the back of the device works. To adjust the brightness, press another button printed on the base of the largest mirror. There are three different brightness settings, but I didn't find them particularly useful. This mirror is best used in a well-lit room. The mirror is well balanced and does not tip over. The pink color is very subtle; not conspicuous. Overall I am very happy with my purchase and use it every day.
