Think of this product as those self-inflating sleeping pads you take on camping trips. It is an airtight nylon shell with an inch to an inch and a half thick foam inside. When you open the seal, the foam expands and draws some air into the shell to accommodate the volume. This is basically what is with the built in heater elements. The fleece top is then held in place by a small pocket at each corner (like a fitted sheet). Everything seems pretty solid and secure, the cable and control box seem to be very well made. But as a place to sleep it leaves a lot to be desired. My dog wouldn't sleep on it even if her life depended on it. She got depressed as soon as I replaced her bed. She usually sleeps on anything soft, even awkward pillows smaller than her size. She had never been afraid of a new bed. As she then circled to the "cave," she rose and deformed from all sides, as if walking on a flimsy air mattress. The lid slipped off and there wasn't enough air to provide adequate cushioning or reduce bloating.
