it is definitely not for newborns.
My son was a month old before we used him for a Halloween costume but the hat is huge and his ears are really hanging. Good thing I had some sticky-backed metal sticks (used for masks) to support my ears for the photoshoot. In order for the hat to fit, I had to pull it up to my nose, so my photos had to be retouched a bit to scale down the hat so it didn't look so disproportionate on him. The floor and lightsaber were as expected. The only thing that bothered me was the headgear. Too big for newborn, probably better for 3 month old.
