Yes, it is a bit noisy. I love sleeping with a fan, both for the noise and the air escaping. We went to Seattle and we went lightly. So I know I need a small fan. Once at a hotel I used the USB adapter I had. The fan worked great. It's not a power plant, but a small fan blew enough air to put me to sleep. It also fits in my backpack without taking up much space. It blows a little better when plugged into the wall, but it's just perfect for when you're sitting on your laptop and just want to cool off. The noise depends on what position you have the fan in, but it's definitely not bad for me.
