My little crazy energetic kitty got this Thursday. Took about 15 minutes to assemble even with that. Follow the instructions to check for loose screws 2 days after fitting I guess I'll be checking every few days forever I noticed it had a slight smell for the first few days a new carpet with some I don't know what. Not super strong but not comfortable. It's quiet. My cat was a little scared of wood at first, a bit of catnip spray helped and now he's using it as a jungle gym. Seems well made. Time will tell of course but other than searching for loose screws and the inevitable shedding of lint this is a great scratching post for now, it doesn't wobble or wobble and my cat bucks directly onto the scratching post! Photos show the scratching post - it is NOT HUGE which is a plus as I have very limited space. The cat weighs about 10 pounds and has long limbs. So he's kind of hanging off the top bar, doesn't seem to mind. UPDATE October 30, 2017: I followed the instructions to check and tighten the bolts. However, the front platform and base are held in place with a double ended screw which came loose today when my cat reached out to scratch that post. I loosened the double ended screw a bit, put the post back in place and kept twisting (sisal feels heavy on hands) until I felt it was really tight. But I see this will continue, I expect to lose a post that will not amuse the cat. I assume the smaller platform then needs to be bolted to the bottom post? And the material doesn't hold up very well, fluff is everywhere no matter how hard I vacuum the wood. One star deducted because I don't think this tree will last long and I'll have to buy it again. My cat likes it very much, it really suits my small house. Only this bracket sits between the bottom and middle posts, the problem is you can't use the tension tool that comes with it. UPDATE August 2018 Downgraded from 1 star to 3 stars. My cat still loves his scratching post. But I have to replace them at any time. Although the material is soft, it continues to pill (see photo), and where it doesn't pill it is almost bare. Also picks up hair, dust, everything and sticks! It's difficult to stay clean and dehydrated. I can't tighten the bolts anymore so it's a matter of time before one of the knuckles, probably the lower front one, just falls apart. I really want Aramark to use carpet or some other fabric. The scratching post looks like it's been through several cat wars! No, only 1 11lb strong. It's still stable, don't worry about the tip. The front ramp is mostly useless, although it can be fun for small cats or kittens. Not sure if I will replace it with the current one, especially since the price has gone up. Less than a year old and needing a replacement in the near future just doesn't inspire me to spend that much.
