Review on Purina Fancy Feast Classic Chicken Cats by Candace Hennessy

Revainrating 2 out of 5

One of my cats has developed an allergy to every Fancy Feast I've tried.

I don't usually write reviews but I think this might be helpful for some people. I've been ordering Fancy Feast for years and my cats are in awe of the sound of opening a can of feast food. However, my cat Zoe started scratching around her ears and wouldn't stop, even when she was bleeding. At first I thought it was ear mites so I took her to the vet, then the vet told me it was more of an allergic reaction. I then hypothesized that she had developed an allergy to some type of food (which is common in cats). People say it takes about 6-8 weeks for cats to respond to allergies so I started doing this 8 week protein swap with wet food, dry food and Zyrtec. I fed my cats only one protein, both wet and dry, hoping they would respond. Zoya's face usually turns red and itchy 15 minutes after eating; If she scratches, I'll give her half Zirtek. Six months later nothing helped. I was worried that Zoe would be addicted to Zyrtec forever. I ended up running out of wet food (Fancy Feast) and wanted to wait until the dry food was gone to switch to protein. Except she stopped itching! I started giving her a new protein to try and she never scratched again. I stopped feeding her and she got better! I have since started a new canned food (she is currently eating BLUE) and she has never had this problem again. There is no problem with his food other than that I can no longer trust the items that are now in the tin can.
