It's ok but not the best.

I bought this mattress pad to protect my futon from my cat's "accidents". She has separation anxiety and tends to urinate on the couch when we leave (or she WAS, but luckily we managed to fix this!) or furniture because the smell never goes away. Despite professional cleaning, we still had to buy a new mattress, and not just once, but twice! We finally got this mattress protector to protect our (third!) futon, and it has been so far. Simply good. It fits perfectly, so good. But the material is kind of uncomfortable. Because it's waterproof, it's made from a smooth, stretchy "swimsuit"-like material that's uncomfortable to sit on. Of course, if you cover it with blankets or sheets, that's fine, but if you plan on sleeping directly on it, you'll probably feel uncomfortable. It's also just MOST waterproof. My cat has since peed on our futon 3 times and the first time she blocked the mattress 100% but it seems the absorption quality has decreased since then. The next 2 times only about 75% of the liquid stopped - to my disappointment some spilled onto the mattress. My theory after reading some other reviews is that washing a mattress pad completely destroys the waterproofing even if you follow the directions. In general, these waterproof covers should be washed in cold water (sometimes lukewarm) and NOT tumble dried except in a tumble dryer as the heat can damage the waterproof material. Knowing this, I washed it in cold water, used nothing but a hypoallergenic detergent (which is kind to delicate fabrics) in the machine, and decided to air dry it by hanging it on a shower curtain rod for 24 hours have. BTW it takes a long time to dry as the material is designed to hold liquid so I would recommend tumble drying, again no heat. After it was completely dry, the material felt the same, but the next time the kitten "accidented," as I said, some of the liquid ran onto the futon. It happened again next time. I still use this cover as a preventive measure as it still has most of its waterproof properties, but I no longer trust it to completely prevent "accidents" from damaging my mattress. If you really need something 100% waterproof, look elsewhere.

Pros

Cons
