The cover is screwed on, not snapped in. No hermetics.
It just arrived so can't comment on it other than first impressions. The glass feels thick and durable. I was a little surprised that the lid is screwed on instead of removed. For some reason I just assumed the pull handle had to be there, but I don't think so. The lid is definitely thinner metal than I expected and I have a feeling it will rust and dent easily, but only time will tell. There is also no rubber grommet or gasket on the lid, so I definitely wouldn't call this item airtight.
