A great way to explore. We used it in the science freshman year and let the students explore the materials in the box. You know about magnets, but few really know what magnetism is. The students explored for about 45 minutes. Some just played, others took an exercise book and started working on specific exercises (compass, time magnets, magnetic fields). At this point, I did not answer any questions, but rather asked the students to write down questions and their observations. Questions and observations lead to a discussion of magnetism and its uses. We have used the exercises in the companion booklet to continue these discussions. Later in the class we will do more applied exercises with a higher level of thinking. All together took 50 minutes. (This is a great introductory project for students to try in your class.) All in all, an interesting set for introducing and studying magnetism. Many students do not realize how many magnets there are in their daily life.
