The best thing about the Microsoft Touch Mouse is its form factor and no doubt the people who study it do it for the portability. The exterior design is excellent, but functional design is lacking and the build quality is below average. Users will immediately notice that clicks don't register unless the very tips of the mouse buttons are pressed, not the spots where fingers naturally land for many. You may also notice that the station is relatively weak. For example, if you're using a laptop with a thick metal body, using the mouse in front of the USB port will severely limit range. In my case, the mouse stops registering clicks and scrolls beyond about 24 inches. Also, there seem to be issues in the firmware where scrolling sometimes no longer registers unless the mouse is cycled off and on again. After three months of use, the mouse wears out significantly. The rubber at the bend has been polished and the ribs of the bend mechanism are now visible through the rubber. The mouse's foot pads are made of the same hard plastic as the mouse's body, not the softer plastic used on most mice, and are therefore prone to scratching. In addition, the polished surface of the mouse buttons is inferior and appears stained. Otherwise, battery life and tracking are excellent. I ordered the Bluetooth variant of this device and found that the most serious issues remained on this device and that the mouse click thing was even worse. Microsoft would do well to redesign the mouse and use a different flexible material, e.g. B. high-strength fabric or significantly thicker rubber. You would also do well to move the key switches to the middle of the mouse buttons. I still use this mouse on a daily basis, but sometimes I'll say out loud how much I hate it when it's giving me problems (especially when the scroll function stops working properly). suddenly). If you want a full-size mouse in a low-profile package, I think this is the only solution currently available. But other than that, you might save yourself a headache or two.
