The first hair tie I pulled out broke just checking the tension of the hair tie. The second time I pulled out, I was able to tie my hair into a ponytail. The hairband lasted several hours. When they started to unravel, I loosened my hair and adjusted the hair tie. Once I managed to wrap a rubber band around my hair and it broke. These hair scrunchies are just the right thickness to hold thick hair, but the scrunchie is cheap and doesn't last long. If you only intend to use your hair tie once or twice I would recommend buying these, but if you want to get a lot of use out of your hair tie this is not an option for you.
