2003 Tundra XM Installation Made Easy

I tried hardwiring a pluggable bare wire adapter or adapter but it was just a waste of time. You cannot just cut the adapter off the cable as it is a power reducer that converts 12 volts to 5 volts. I wasted half a day trying at least two different ways to plug in a cigarette lighter style adapter before going online to test other options. I ordered this Sirius XM adapter and threw the cigarette lighter in the trash, this great little product did the trick. Another trick I did to install an Onyx radio in my 2003 Tundra using the bracket that came with the XM kit was to remove the ashtray, remove the metal part and face and 1/ cutting 2 inches from its front with my chop. Saw (the ashtray is plastic), then insert the ashtray backwards. Then just drill two holes to attach the bracket with small screws and route the wires in the ashtray to the XM dock bracket.

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Poorly thought out
