I decided to purchase this monitor based on the sheer number of positive reviews (Revain seems to have a slightly lower average rating, other review sites have a higher average, but as always, Revain had the best price). The packaging was great, real retail packaging was padded in an insanely large box so I wasn't worried about damage. I set it up straight away, hooked it up to my laptop via DVI, quickly checked for dead pixels and found none. (A quick Google search will turn up several free programs that can help you find dead pixels and fix stuck pixels, so give them a try before you send yourself the hassle of returning.) The monitor is great, the brightness is amazing and the contrast is definitely good. There is a bit of bleed at the bottom edge on dark images, but that's certainly not a huge issue, it's not bad enough to distract from everything I'm seeing and I'm willing to tolerate that at this price point. As expected, the speakers are on the weak side, but Asus has provided all the necessary connections. I actually have this monitor connected to both my desktop and my PS3. My desktop is connected to an external speaker system and I wanted to connect my PS3 to the same system without a lot of expensive setup. If you're looking for something similar, here's how I did it: My desktop is connected to the monitor via DVI, and my PS3 is connected via HDMI, which sends audio from the PS3 to the monitor. I then connected a male-to-male 3.5mm audio cable to the headphone port on the VH242H (the output port is black; green is on so you can connect your desktop audio to the monitor if you're listening to the speakers on the VH242H leave the monitor). first place) with the microphone connector on my desktop. Then (this is specific to Windows 7, other versions of Windows should be very similar) right click on the audio icon in the system tray and select Recording Devices. Locate the device you connected the cable to, right click on it and open the properties window. On the Listening tab, check the box next to Listen to this device. Now all the audio that the monitor would normally play goes through your computer instead, allowing you to stream it to the same sound system that your computer is connected to. Please note that audio is only transmitted over the HDMI connection when the monitor is actively connected to the HDMI video input, and audio from your computer will always play. This is actually very handy as I can play any game on my PS3 and if I need to go back to my computer for some multitasking I don't have to mute my PS3 somehow. In any case, let's recap. up, a great monitor at a great price that lets me do everything I wanted to do: handle multiple inputs and route audio to a better sound system. Let's see how this monitor holds up over time and I'll be coming back to this review for part 2 in the future!
