Lining not waterproof and smelly

not waterproof. And after getting wet, the pad gives off a horrible smell of cat pee. My daughter wore these boots this winter. We don't have much snow this year. We had a wet, snowy day. We went for a walk in the neighborhood - 30 minutes maximum. Her boots were wet and her socks were wet and icy. The mesh on the sides of the boots did not prevent water from entering the boots - see photo. Then, when the boots were dry, the smell started. Irresistible smell. Cat urine or something acidic from felt pads. The felt is not removed. We didn't do anything to the boots while drying, other than placing them next to an air vent so air is blown through the top of the boots. They were comfortable, warm when not wet, and matched well with her winter pants. I'm sorry they didn't work.
