Missing one piece, ugh

This robot started out as such an awesome idea for my 9 year old autistic son. until he realized one single piece was missing! I’ve tried everything to substitute this missing piece but it’s literally the only piece like it and he won’t move on. We have a half built robot and he will not continue until we find the piece.Your guess is as good as mine as to how well it works.
