Absolutely normal. Same/similar old design from Teavana

I bought the same one made by Teavana a while back and it was purple. It worked amazingly well. I ended up using steel wool to remove the purple because the paint was chipped and scratched and looked better after it was removed. I dropped it quite a few times not too long ago and dented the floor so it's a leaning tea tower now. Still works great but now I'm afraid of knocking it over on my desk. I bought this glass to take back to work and am keeping the old one at home. Teavana lost the patent on this glass so I was able to get this at a slightly better price. I'm not sure if the quality has deteriorated or not, but the rubber ring inside the lid has deformed and the lid is very difficult to open and close. However, it doesn't spill and seems to keep the temperature just as hot. I didn't want to exchange something like this, so I didn't ask the seller about it. Instead I swapped the cap for my old one. So now I have one that works perfectly and another that tilts and is difficult to open and close. Other info that hasn't changed from old to new: Keeps liquids hot and cold for hours. Works even better if you heat or cool it before use. (Example: Fill with hot tap water before putting on hot tea or coffee and let sit for a few minutes. This will keep your drinks hot/cold longer.) Great for my car cup holder. Nice button design. I no longer use the second lid. If you are a big tea drinker this is great as the 2nd lid holds the tea strainer perfectly when you are done brewing. - I cheat and drink less tea so I don't have to take it out so it doesn't get too strong. And the tea I buy isn't bitter, so I'm safe there too. The sieve is pretty good. I don't know if this will work for matcha tea as I haven't tried it yet. But it holds everything else I have in there pretty well. If you're using a ton of small-leaved tea, you may need to place the tea in the cup under the strainer instead of in to avoid the leaves getting caught in the lid. It happens to some of me from time to time, but it's easy enough to clean up and it doesn't happen enough for me to care. I recently dented my old tea strainer quite badly. I just held on too tight and twisted the steel wool too roughly on the inside. I had a good crunch. But I withdrew it. It's ugly, but it still works.
