Price is important to me and that reflects in this review. This lens costs a thousand dollars and does an incredible job for the price. I photograph them with three different Nikons. D800, D610 and D5300. The D5300 is only used with this lens. After it arrived I took some handheld shots just to check out the VR. I've had great results with the D5300 at maximum focal length, like an 18x telescope. That's right, it was midday in bright sunshine. One shot was the summit of the Louisiana state capital from a mile away across the Mississippi River on a muggy afternoon. Excellent results given the circumstances. Since then I have always used a heavy-duty tripod with a heavy-duty ball head. When I shoot with the D5300 the results are amazing. The D800 and D800 take a little more time in Lightroom, but the end result is still amazing. I've seen similar shots to mine taken with a $10,000 fixed length lens. I'm sure they must be technically better than mine, but I just don't see it. For my purposes and for the price I can highly recommend this lens. Another note: this is a specialty lens. You probably don't need this lens, and neither do I. I wanted him and that was my need.
