I just assembled a scratching post (took me about 20 minutes) and my cats love to climb on it. As expected, the mouse disengaged after about 2 seconds, but simply made a loop of rubber band and draped it over its tail. Later I will replace the shackle with a screw eyelet and a stronger rubber band, which will solve this problem. The color is a little lighter than the picture, which is normal, and it wobbles a bit when a few cats scratch it and climb on it, but there doesn't seem to be any risk of falling. Just a word, before you start assembling yours, I first placed the pillars that attach to the top and bottom of the crate/secret hole (for lack of a better term) as you can just keep the Allen key inside, not screw move while manually tightening the speakers. Once they're on, turn it on its side and attach the base. Placing part of the shelter hole on one of the platform pieces will raise it high enough to perfectly align the legs and base so you can insert the bolts. This works much better than following the instructions as the hex wrench doesn't fit well on some screws so you have to use the other end of the wrench (which is shaped like a Phillips screwdriver) and twist it with pliers. This would be difficult to do inside the box/cache. Otherwise it was easy to assemble.* I'm giving 4 stars (or maybe 4.5) because I think it's a very valuable and beautiful functional product that will be great fun for cats and will save on furniture. Love the fact that it's made from a durable material (like MDA instead of OSB or plywood) and the way the carpet/fleece is beautifully finished on the edges under the platforms shows the attention to detail its construction. I'm subtracting a bit because it would be a bit more stable if they put 3 pillars on the second tier instead of just 2. I can add one myself if it becomes less stable over time. If anything changes in the stability of this scratching post over time, I will update the review. *Update: After only a few days of heavy use, the tree began to sway more when the bolts were loosened. I see this as a constant problem as the bolts are screwed directly into the pillars which move as the cats scratch and climb on them. You can minimize this by buying some lock washers and putting them on the bolts before reassembly. As this is inherent in the design of most of these products, with the exception of adding another column to reduce stress on the central platform (as mentioned), I have not deducted any points. If it is possible. but I would probably give it a 3.75. *Second update: A few months later, the scratching post has tipped over onto the glass-topped table three times since the last update. This is the result of one of my big cats jumping off the side of a tall tower and pulling him as he ran to the top. They love wood, but the ease with which the supports rotate when the cats scratch them, weakening the platforms, makes the slab unstable. I will be taking it apart and adding lock washers as I have previously suggested to new buyers and will definitely keep it away from anything that might break. Everything else in the tree is fine; The rope is loose at a support, but that's because one of my cats chewed through the fiber and pulled on it. I just use some Elmer's glue. The stability issue is easy for manufacturers to fix: just add another second-level support post, but if you find a model that already has it, this might be your best bet. It's still a good buy, but add a few lock washers when reassembling and be careful where you put it if you have riotous cats. In addition, the plush fabric collects fur; An easy way to deal with this is to scratch them with the side of a rubber-soled flip-flop. This creates a ball of fur that you can just throw away (also works great on carpets).
