It seems much more efficient because you can just use both sides of the box. I love that it's reusable, so at least it's kind of eco-friendly. Both of my cats love it and the box is a mess of cardboard pieces that fall out when they scratch it (which used to be scattered all over the floor). I regularly vacuum the inside. This is a much better option than the expensive ones that only allow you to scratch on one side. My only minor complaint was that one of the corners was open, but that was slightly taped over. If your cat loves to scratch, you won't regret your purchase.
