I wanted a hat that would keep you warm in cold weather but not so much that you can't wear it in cool weather. I think this cap will be very comfortable down to 15F, even colder if not too windy. It has a deep crown so even with the flap down, the bottom edge of the cap sits below the top edge of my ears. Your ears may be different. When the flaps are down it covers all of my ears. This cap does not protect your neck and does not cause neck friction when you turn your head. I ordered an XL which hangs a bit on my head with a 23 1/2" circumference. Overall I would say it was a perfect fit as I don't want a tight fit and I am at the bottom of the" XL" size scale bin.
