this is my 4th roku after getting a new router my roku express had problems with mlb.tv app no good offers WiFi bandwidth. I never found out because it worked before the Roku update. So I got this to try and solve my problem. The difference in speed compared to a wired network is truly amazing. I have a program I wrote to monitor my router and show the throughput of each connection. With Wi-Fi on 2.4 I never had more than 10Mbps, now I get 50 when I need it and stream mlb at 9 for 1080p. I've written a program that will be my own dedicated remote control (with http commands to send left, right, ok, etc.) and now it's much more responsive over a wired network. I skip 2 minutes by sending FF 3 times and then delay about 1 second before sending the play button. The baseball then skips 2 minutes and starts almost immediately since it can buffer back so quickly. I will never go back to Wi-Fi with Roku. It also solved another issue where Wi-Fi 2.4 was interfering with my wireless 2.4 mice that I use on my computers. No longer. And finally, it was easy to install it as a replacement. It even seemed to me that the remote was connected without any action, although after getting the MAC address and setting the reserved 192.IP address, I did a factory reset. It noticed the wired connection and used it automatically instead of trying Wi-Fi but giving you the option. Then he downloaded the update and updated 41 channels in about 2 minutes. I then used the app on my Android phone to connect to my existing account. The app makes it much easier to enter text using the keyboard (e.g. email addresses and passwords). I haven't tried any of the additional features like the improved remote control, but I will continue to use my phone and tablet with the Roku app. I'll let others talk about using a real remote as it has some extra features that I don't need.
