HACKS to Make You Love Your Coverstitch Machine

This machine has changed my sewing life! Now I can hem ANY stretch fabric, no matter how thin or delicate, and give every top I make a professional, store-bought finish. I use it to sew PERFECT necklines, armholes and hems. Trick #1 - REMOVE YOUR PRODUCT FROM THE CAR: It's very simple; When you are finished sewing the hem, 1. Open the looper flap. 2. LET GO OF THE LOOPER! 3. Raise the presser foot. 4. Press the thread tensioner with your fingers. 5. Remove the hemmed piece without sticking or pulling. 6. Before cutting the threads, close the looper and you can sew the next stitch. The trick is to loosen the looper because the needle threads are wrapped around the looper as you sew and won't let go. Turning the knob never helps me. Trick #2 - SEW THE PERFECT hem (or neckline or armhole) WITHOUT IRONING: STEP 1: On a regular sewing machine, MAKE the edge of the fabric roughly a continuous seam around the entire perimeter of the piece (this is very important for creating of "wrinkle tension"). STEP 2: On the coverstitch machine: Using basting thread, create a fold (fold along the "dotted line" of the thread) making a perfect 1/2 inch hem. As you sew, you can gently tug on the basting thread, which creates just enough tension so your pleat lines up perfectly with the 1/2-inch mark. STEP 3: When done, remove using trick #1 above; and thread the upper threads to the wrong side of the edge of the garment and knot them from the inside before cutting them. STEP 4: Remove the basting threads from the fold and you're done! Not only does the end result look beautiful, but the stitching stretches with the fabric so you can surprise and amaze all your friends. :) The basting (trick #2) may seem like extra work, but trust me you will be AMAZING with the results, especially when sewing jersey/stretch fabrics that don't iron well. But that's not all, I tested it and the basting technique works very well even with non-elastic fabrics. I will never go back to life without an overlock and cover machine (I have a few Brother machines). . I'm a changed woman and people wonder that my clothes are actually made at home. Even my teenage daughter lets me sew for her now! You can use the machine to hem Under Armor shirts and the result will be incredibly similar to the real thing. If you're on the fence, just go ahead and buy this car! I assure you, follow my advice and you will NOT regret your purchase. Best wishes and have fun sewing!
