Replacing this hose on my '06 Hummer H3 and cleaning the valve cover where the other PCV hose is (which was clogged) fixed the oil gauge and lack problem. Basically the oil stayed in the valve cover and didn't drip off because this case slammed shut under the vacuum and it looked like suction in the valve cover. This is a very common problem with these 5 cylinders and what happens happens on the other PCV hose. (Intake side or Driver side) If you remove the hose and use something small like a small drill bit to poke in there, they tend to get clogged. Then spray some intake cleaner, this should solve this problem without removing the valve cover. Just do this before changing the oil to keep dirt out of your engine.
