Sounds best with headphones in my opinion

I love listening to music as much as any other guy (or girl) but I can't call myself an audio expert. I like it when I have the opportunity to disconnect from the world for a while and they are great for that. When they arrived I bandaged them. After a few hours (like 6 hours) different earbuds (there are 3 sizes of small rubber earbuds) and switched them on by connecting to my phone. After about a minute it started behaving, turned off, I think that told me something about the low battery. I plugged everything back in and put it away for the night. The second day was much better. I think it took a day to fully charge everything. It's USB C but uses a slower charger. Maybe you could get better results with a better wall wart (only comes with a small cable). I was able to plug them into my phone and they sounded good, about the same as other in-ear headphones I've had in the past. Then I came across active noise cancellation. Suddenly my neighbor's lawn mower was gone, I couldn't hear the washing machine, I only heard music. The music didn't overwhelm the sound like other headphones I've had. Small earbuds that block most of the sound and active noise cancellation block out much of the noise around you. When my wife was screaming in the room I could hear her, but when she called me from the downstairs hall I couldn't hear anything. A few cons, at least for me. First, it really isolates you from the rest of the world. When I'm working in my office, my door is open, I want people to come in and say hello. With them in your ears, active noise cancellation and music, you really don't hear anything. Another disadvantage for me are the small buttons. Press one button on the left ear to turn on ANC, the other is power I think. Luckily no one has called yet, I have no idea what to do to answer the call. I think I'll use them for ANC the same way I use them for listening to music (ANC can be turned on when there's no music playing, it just really cuts out most of the noise). They're pretty comfortable and will be great on the plane if we ever travel to work again. It would be nice to simply eliminate aircraft and airport noise as much as possible.
