I found an old 2005 laptop hard drive in my garage and wanted to see if I could salvage it I had an existing SATA-to-USB at home so I took it to connect an old IDE hard drive to a SATA port. Worked great and was able to image the hard drive and restore everything. Didn't work when connected to a USB 3.0 port! I had to get another adapter plugged into the USB 2.0 port on my old laptop. I don't know why, but with USB 3.0 it didn't show up in hard drive scan and repair, the software couldn't detect it. It doesn't usually matter which USB port I'm using this SATA-A connector (I've used it on other hard drives before), so I think it has something to do with it. Hope this helps anyone who might have a problem. same problem.
