Not long ago I needed to convert my old desktop computer that I keep for emergencies from XP to Win 7. Unfortunately I ran into an issue where the driver for a very old LCD was not recognized on it The new OS provided a generic driver. This driver was not suitable for the monitor and after that the display driver started to reset itself intermittently. Having luck with the older brother of this Viewsonic LED monitor that I got with my new computer a little over 2 years ago, I decided to buy this monitor to use. The only difference is that the Viewsonic monitor I bought 2 years ago used a cold cathode fluorescent lamp (CCFL) as the light source and not the LED backlight on this newer monitor. Upon receipt I installed this new LED monitor on my everyday computer and transferred the old Viewsonic CCFL backlit LCD to my old emergency backup computer where it worked perfectly. As with the older monitor, the colors are good and this monitor is comfortable to read for long periods of time without eye strain. It is designed to be used as a horizontal widescreen monitor and has display settings for use as such. Another plus for me is that I also save a few bucks because the LED backlit screen on this device uses less power to operate. It works well for my daily uses as well as gaming whenever I feel like it. Yes, I can still take down evil monsters on this LED backlit monitor. :-) Speaker. Tiny stereo speakers are built into this monitor. They are not intended to replace a stereo sound system, nor should they expect to. But tiny speakers give you some flexibility. When I'm not playing or listening to music on my main desktop computer, the sound comes out to the monitor. System sounds, watching a web video of my soccer coach explaining the team's weekly losses, etc. are good enough with just these speakers. And again, not having to keep my 5.1 amps/speakers on all the time is also an energy/cost saving for me. With proper use, this monitor should provide years of viewing pleasure. I don't think they would have had a 3 year warranty if the company that made them didn't expect them to last at least that long. Enjoy watching.
