This mic stand is great for storing my Electro-Voice RE320 and easily fits a heavier mic. I used to use a Heil PL2T which is still my favorite ceiling mount, but I need an under-the-head mic mount that doesn't get in the way of the studio lighting while still giving me the flexibility of positioning I'm used to. OC White is a well-known alternative, but also significantly more expensive (about 5 times more expensive than this one!). So while it _really_ meets my basic needs, I have a few complaints about the design, really just the base. is just a monitor mount with a fixing screw, convenient for the microphone. This makes it very easy for VIVO to do both and make just a tiny tweak to that end. But that also means unnecessary transfers as a microphone stand. And that's where my complaints are. The most obvious issue is the large bar that the arm attaches to. This design isn't needed for monitors either, but it _really_ allows for expandability and greater versatility in placement. But again, this is more for monitors, not a mic. However, you could probably use a monitor stand (or two) and a microphone holder. But for the microphone alone, that's a big eyesore. A less obvious problem is the massive base plate. I've used other monitor mounts like this but they've never had base mount systems this large. This one is a few inches wide and has a large flat piece of metal protruding a few inches below the table line. Looks like the base was designed for a 30lb monitor with a rocking baby! But if you choose to drill through your desk (like I should have, or spend five times more on an OC White arm), the footprint is a lot smaller. My last concern is brittle rice grains. Piece in the pole to prevent it from rotating. Does almost nothing, only disturbs. It would be better if it was stronger and contained in a more reliable metal plate.
