Review on πŸ‘Ά Ergobaby Swaddler Fly Me Away Cotton Baby Sleeping Bag, Swaddle Wrap with Hip Positioner and Arm Pouches by Eric Cortes

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Actually only 1/2 diaper

I didn't see the exact pictures before buying this diaper. I just frantically bought 1 of each variety (because like with bottles you never know which one the baby will like) as my daughter needed a diaper, but she used her crazy monkey power to undo the "regular" diapers. A&A was my choice because they worked for a short time when my previous 3 had to be diapered so I didn't know about velcro/zip types. I was pleasantly surprised to see little pockets for her hands. in each flap - it was a huge plus because she couldn't twist her arms out of those diapers! But the position of the flaps could be improved. As my little one was desperately trying to get her hands out, both hands were on top of the flap making it difficult to tie the diaper; she holds her hands on top of each other so the diaper never lays flat at the tip/hole (there would be a gap between the fabric and her body). Since then I've seen another brand where the child's arms go up into the flap (rather than sideways like this one) which looks a lot more natural. So armbands are a great idea/perhaps the wrong placement, but having them is still better than not having them at all. The part that runs between her legs is a bit thick and wide for a brand new baby who is still curled up in a ball. When they are in the frog pose their legs are of course open so the width doesn't matter but the skirt of this diaper doesn't support their legs so there really is no frog in this pose. I'm also not even sure why the diaper piece is there (perhaps to compensate for the loose skirt?). It didn't add to the feeling of "hugging" or swaddling my baby. In fact, she hated that part of the diaper. But it was too thick and bulky not to carry (you can't just put it on and not use it). Before I actually had to use them I thought they were such a cute idea (because I put cloth diapers on my son and it gave me back my love of cloth diapers - and ps if I hadn't been doing laundry for a family from the age of 6 folks, me would totally go back to cloth diapers!). So, diaper - I liked / the child didn't like it; not sure why he was even there. Finally the "rock". Oh boy. Again, before using it I thought it was a fantastic idea - of course! Legs for hot babes are brilliant! Then I realized that foot wrapping, like any other swaddling, is HALF of the equation. You can't just wrap your arms and dangle your legs - but any "ready" wrap will do! Babies who want/need diapers need it ENTIRELY for it to be effective; means legs. I think being able to unzip the bottom to let air in while keeping the legs tightly wrapped would be much better for hot kids (along with other tweaks like fabric choice). The skirt of these diapers basically left 3/4 of her body unwrapped even when tucked into the skirt. It was too roomy to give her the relief of changing diapers. So the skirt is a great idea, bad execution. I really wanted to love this diaper. I liked it when I opened the package. The material was soft and thick so I knew without a blanket she would be warm inside (actually it would be a lovely baby blanket with a softer fabric on the wrong side; fabric is perfect for a diaper). This is a quality item and beautifully made. but unfortunately its design didn't suit us. On the other hand, Ergo makes zippered diapers with snaps in the armholes to bring the arms out. I love this shawl because my baby loves it. She's starting to refuse to swaddle, but sometimes she still needs that tight feeling, so this works great. The only thing I don't like is the way the zipper goes under her chin, but that's a problem with ALL zippered diapers (especially when baby is near the end of the weight range). But you, your kid might really like it. swaddling and preferring it to the more traditional ways, you just never know what your baby will react to until you try it. Good luck with the diaper hunt!
