and cleaning seemed messy

I ordered these for my 50th anniversary. These are very small numbers (about the size of my pinky) made out of hard plastic. I didn't quite get how to use them - throwing them all over the table felt very messy - they're quite small and cleaning up seemed like a mess. Also, with a scatter, it wasn't clear what exactly those things in a bunch were saying. They definitely couldn't be on the plate as people might mistake them for little candies and try to eat them. They were well made for what they are, but I wasn't sure how to decorate them.
