When I ordered this charger I was expecting a cheap fixed voltage charger. I'm sure you know the guy. The display flickers randomly when nothing is plugged in. no This docking station has a matching charger that intelligently recognizes when the battery is inserted. However, more valuable to me (a color blind user!) is that the lights are off when inactive. (Intelligent recognition function.) During charging, the indicator lights up in red. When the battery is fully charged the indicator will flash green giving even my color blind people an extremely clear indication that my battery is ready! Can't speak to cell balancing functions, I believe this is handled by the battery's internal BMS. But the full charge completion voltage was correct at 8.4 volts and the radio display showed a new and moderate state of charge. No signs of overcharging or overheating, neither in the stand nor in the battery. You can use a loose battery in a docking station or radio. - My Yaesu VX-6E fits perfectly. It also has a metal base with rubber feet to keep it stable on your desk. You can use it with the included charging cable, but the charging station conveniently comes with a power cord included.
