I've been trying to convert this into a stand/sit desk that allows the laptop and monitor to be moved around the room with the ability to pivot the monitor and laptop into working positions. It is impossible. First, the laptop stand doesn't rotate (clockwise/counterclockwise) so you need an extra keyboard. Even on a desktop, I would recommend using an external keyboard. Second, the gas spring is just annoying. This is a very unnecessary feature. If it is a desktop device, then it is not needed. I prefer vertical articulation with downforce. It takes too much force for the gas spring to go down and it happily rises back up if you just blow on it. The lightest push and it returns to the top position. This also requires an external keyboard. The device is durable and very easy to assemble. I would even say super engineered. (Which I never complain about, unless it's some tricky gas spring mechanism in an articulated arm designed to move through multiple positions.)
