I'm usually a big fan of VTech toys, but this toy let me down. There is a volume control, but it only controls the volume of the device, not the microphone itself. This microphone toy doesn't even amplify voices - my son's voice is louder than his. And with music playing through the device, you can forget you're even hearing it unless it's screaming. Also the various "speech noises" don't work, they all sound like a normal voice, again without amplification. At the age of 2 he appreciates and loves that it can be connected to other devices to play his music. That's the only reason I gave 3 stars. Otherwise it would be a return.
