A cheaper way to use Canon glass on the G7

Updated overview*** Final overview. If you're on a budget and have Canon glass that you want to use with the G7 AND don't want to shoot automatically, this is an acceptable alternative. to more expensive metabones. This item is now my keeper. It's not without quirks, but after experimenting with different camera settings, it has proven to be a functional and useful tool.** FYI, this is not a speed booster, so no glass is added between the camera and lens. Also, I'm not a big user of continuous autofocus - I tend to use "manual mode/trigger focus" with my cameras. I can't say this adapter will work for you if you rely on "full auto mode" for your photos/videos. My setup / lenses tested: Panasonic Lumix G7 4KCanon EF 50mm f1.8 "fifty" Canon EF-S 24mm f2. 8Canon EF-S 18-135mmCanon ED-S 55-250mmPros - The lens is solid/heavy and built better than I expected - The adapter fits the G7 camera snugly and Canon lenses fit the adapter snugly - Fully adjustable aperture and shutter speed via menu and Panasonic touchscreen- Autofocus controls- Comes with a detachable tripod adapter - the weight of this item shifts the camera's center of gravity forward- When used as a 'blunter' adapter (only aperture/shutter speed, no autofocus) works er very good.- The image quality seems the same to me, but I haven't done extensive image comparisons (I've attached a small video of my 50mm lens set to f3.5 at ISO 800). Cons: No visible port for firmware upgrade - not fully sure about Commlite support - I sent emails to sales@commlite.com from multiple accounts and their server rejected them all as spam (these emails came from yahoo.com and gmail.com). All chat options are in Chinese. - Inconsistencies in autofocus behavior - I'm a big user of shutter focus and AF/AE lock. Once I focus, I expect it to stay in that focus range until I focus at a different distance. With the Commlite attached I can use the shutter button to focus initially. If I recompose the frame or the camera moves or if something moves in the frame, the camera will seek focus in small increments and pull my original subject out of focus. You can hear the lens making small movements. This focusing problem does not occur when using the Panasonic 14-42 kit lens. For reference, I disabled continuous autofocus. ** Solution To solve this problem, I learned about the G7's AF/AE lock function in conjunction with the AF/AE lock hold function. Once I enabled the AF/AE Lock Hold feature, I was able to use the AF/AE Lock button to hold focus. I was able to move the camera and recompose the shot without having to look for sharpness. While this behavior differs from using a Panasonic lens, I'm willing to put up with that slight difference to be able to use all my Canon glass with the G7. I've also found that focus is held as soon as you start recording. So I have to "unlearn" the habit of locking focus with the shutter button. This is a good option for those who (like me) have been in the Canon world and decided to add the inexpensive Panasonic 4K option to their shooting arsenal and capitalize on their investment in Canon glass.
