This tree is my cat's favorite scratching post. He does not give his other posts a time of day. I suspect the way the scratching post is angled makes it pretty solid and able to hold its weight while going crazy. something I think my cat will appreciate. The reason I'm only giving four stars is that while the base is solid, the rug pieces don't hold up very well; small pieces came off immediately, and after about six months almost the entire front of the top part of the carpet was peeled off. In addition, at some point the material of the rope began to dissolve. I tied an amateur knot where it started to unravel and it looks like the problem is solved for now. In general, however, my cat returns to that scratch day after day to let her instincts run free there (and much less often on the couch or other piece of furniture I put her in front of). I will continue to buy this scraper until a cheaper or more durable option comes along.
