Review on 🚰 Whirlpool Everydrop Ice and Water Refrigerator Filter, EDR5RXD1, Single-Pack by Gregory Plump

The filter is slightly different from the original 4396508 I used but I was able to install it. My fridge is Kenmore (actually Whirlpool) side by side 106.53332300 (repurchased in 2003). I was concerned about the feedback that this filter wasn't working, so I wrote to the company and will include their response in my review. I have attached a photo of the manufacturer's information on my filter packaging and as you can see from Whirlpool's response, filters made by 3M can pose a problem on older refrigerators.---------- ----- - - ---------Thank you for contacting Whirlpool Direct Sales through our website. However, we have found that older fridge models in the range of 8-10 years and older have had some issues with one of our new filters. We have two manufacturers of this filter and have found that on these models one works and the other is very difficult to install. It is possible but very difficult. Our engineers are working on a solution to this problem. If you order direct from us, our warehouse will ship what is in stock and we have no control over what exactly is shipped. When you buy a filter from a store, you can determine which one you are buying. On the lower left side of the box you will see "made for Whirlpool" and then "by". and it will be either Kemflo or 3M for the manufacturer. If you look at an old filter that you have used you will find that it is either flat on top or has notches on top. One of these two filters will match the one you are using. I believe this is the Kemflo one that works with older models. We have a 30-day return policy and a 90-day guarantee. So if you place an order over the phone and receive a defective one, we will replace it with a new one. She. At the moment we simply have no way of knowing which stock will be shipped. With the original filter I never had to worry about that because it always worked. I sincerely hope that Whirlpool will take this seriously and resolve this technical issue soon. ----- New update. The filter I received from Revain was made in Mexico. Although I was able to install it (it had a rounded top) my fridge had some small water leaks in the dispenser in the 6 months it was installed. It was a minor thing, otherwise I would have changed the filter sooner, but still annoying considering it has to be the right filter. I now have the correct filter that I paid more for around town from Kemflo which is notched at the top and fits properly. I downgraded my rating to 2 stars because 2 manufacturers make the same filter differently, causing fit and use issues. Essentially you are taking a risk when you buy this filter online as you don't know which one you are getting.
