This is a special USB cable for some USB hard drives. These USB hard drives have connectors that are not typical USB or Micro-USB connectors. My cable that came with the drive has either disappeared or is currently being confused with many other black cables running around my system. I bought the cable because of its distinctive red color. There were two cords in the box, a smaller one about 10-12 inches long and a larger one 28-36 inches long (I'm not that good at judgment and I don't have a ruler or tape measure handy). The cable worked well on a recent trip to Europe and the longer one is handy for plugging into the back of a desktop computer. Very nice and high quality design.
