A great easy to use camera for beginners or a great lightweight second camera for the intermediate amateur or professional photographer! I use this camera as a light backup for my D300 and D700. Great camera when I don't want to carry the extra weight of professional cameras. A few caveats about the D3100 (otherwise I would have given the camera five stars). 1) Autofocus is only available with new AF-S type lenses. that have a built-in motor. Older AF-D (screwdriver type) work but don't have autofocus. (If you're using manual focus, there's a very useful help in the menu options when focusing with a rangefinder). 2) For some reason Nikon has removed the wireless remote control function of this camera. A little annoying but not a big deal as there are aftermarket options should you need this feature. The D3100 is no longer manufactured. The current model in this class is the D3300.
