Shallow Basket: Storage and Organization

I wanted to use this towel basket for guests in a small bathroom. The basket arrived flat in an airtight plastic bag. After a week of trying to reshape the basket it's still flat, falling over and unable to hold anything. I understand it's soft, but WHY did it arrive vacuum packed and flat?
