Washable markers not washable!

This placemat is very cute and easy to assemble. It was bought to be my 2 year old painting table and to snack on there occasionally. Unfortunately, washable markers cannot be "washed off". We only use Crayola detergent and have never had this problem anywhere, including the Kidcraft kitchen next door. We've tried soapy water, Lysol, Clorox Anywhere, and Magic Erasers to no avail. Unfortunately, it's in our living room and now looks like junk.
