I have had multiple shoulder dislocations, had two shoulder surgeries and recently had my shoulder re-dislocated/split. It hurts just walking and I can't hold more than 5 pounds without a brace or brace before my shoulder subluxes. I have tried a variety of braces and the SB03 is the brace to use when you have a shoulder dislocation, subluxation, separation, rotator cuff tear and/or damaged ligaments and tendons as it provides effective support and maintains an adequate range of motion , to still be functional . I find this brace much more comfortable and supportive than even a sling. The headband is neoprene and you sweat when you exert yourself, so I wear a t-shirt underneath. Appreciate the adjustable clasp on the arm: as other reviewers have noted, it may need to be readjusted if you use your arm muscles heavily or if you wear it for a long time. The design is much heavier than typical shoulder stocks. Body/Straps/X-Brace are made of heavy neoprene with Velcro that sticks everywhere. All ends of the straps are equipped with strong Velcro with rubber pads (rubber pads are on the front and back of the chest strap buckles and on all four ends of the x-shaped straps). The rubber pads are thick enough that you'll notice them when you lean or lie on something hard. If you suffer from shoulder pain/instability to appreciate this brace you will see such discomfort from a hot brace with strong buckles as a small price to pay for joint support. If you have two bad shoulders you can wear two of these braces - remember the overlapping chest straps are similar to wearing an 8mm wetsuit, so your torso is warm and well supported. L/XL limit according to size chart: Approximately 6ft 200lbs with a 34" waist and 43-44" chest measured around the ribs just below the pecs (typically 44-46" jackets are worn). Size L to be tall enough, toned and supportive I have the pecs of a guy who benches a lot and the girls in my fitness classes regularly joke that I'm an A cup (for flat presses/push ups) and on the other hand It gives a triangular neckline from which the rib cage protrudes (which provides firm support everywhere except in the "cup" area. If I were a woman with a large cup size, I couldn't imagine anything designed to accommodate a more lopsided breast to offer support and I would probably invest in very supportive sports bras if I needed the relief of that shoulder support.I have found that single chest strap braces don't support the chest as well but they can usually be worn over the chest. The Braces can be worn under formal wear and is very helpful in physical labor, walking, running, cycling and weight lifting. It keeps the shoulder firmly in the pan while still providing some overhead movement. You can play with a racquet, basketball, volleyball and throw the ball while wearing a brace, but it limits movement somewhat. If you have enough pain/instability in your shoulder to require a brace like this, you probably won't think it's that bad. I don't think you can find a brace that is supportive and totally non-constrictive, but the X-Strap is somewhat adjustable and allows for a compromise in terms of support and movement. Once adjusted, the orthosis can be slipped over the arm, rolled over the shoulder and put on and taken off using just the Velcro on the chest strap. You may want to avoid tearing the velcro, but pull it off carefully to minimize wear on the velcros. One reviewer suggested flipping/reversing the buckle on the chest strap to spread wear and I think it's a good idea, monthly. The neoprene gets wet from stress and I air dry it daily and wash it weekly on the gentle cycle in a mesh bag (so it doesn't stick to other clothes). Postpone another shoulder reconstruction without splints despite complete separation of the acromioclavicular joint and persistent dislocation problems. The surgery has been very effective for me in the past, but the first few months of recovery from the surgery were tough, and it was only after 12 months of really tough rehabilitation that I began to enjoy the benefits of the surgery. This brace allows for a fairly active lifestyle and I would even wear it at night if I had trouble sleeping on my back. It is possible to remove the X-Strap from the SB03, so I don't think I would have bought the SB02 unless I needed a second brace for some light support: perhaps when sleeping or under clothing. SB04 is the same as SB03 but the x-strap has a soft padded hard shield. The SB04 hard plastic shield can provide more shoulder compression when you need more support than the SBO3, but your satisfaction will depend on the shape of your shoulder as the shield is not very flexible. I would recommend the SB04 if your shoulder is sensitive to impact and you are interested in dirt biking/motocross, BMX, mountain biking, horseback riding or any form of martial arts/contact sports. Otherwise, you probably won't need SB04 unless SB03 doesn't support you enough. The SB05 is a double SB02 (which can be supplemented with the SB03 cross-band or the SBO4 shielded cross-band). The SBO2/SB05/SB03 can be worn under football shoulder pads without much discomfort (you may notice that the rubber Velcro covers the shoulder pads more above, particularly the top ends of the strap), but the SB04's screen will be similar with extra toughness Padding under the shoulder pads.
