I rated it five stars. It has a very nice terry cover. The top cover has two layers. The top layer is a blend of cotton and polyester. The second layer is a vinyl-like material which is a liquid leakage layer. The rest of the cover is a stretchy polyester-nylon material that stretches around the side and down the bottom of the mattress. I only bought this to protect the top of my new memory foam mattress. Perfect for a deep pocket mattress. The deep pockets on this cover allow it to fit a mattress up to 16 inches high. My mattress is 12 inches and the cover stretches an additional 4 inches. I am planning to put a 4 inch memory foam topper on top of my mattress. . I believe it fits all memory foam mattress pads. I will let you know if this cover will stretch for an extra top with extra foam on top of my mattress. That's a good shell. I'm not worried about getting warm with a mattress topper. Just because I have a sheet and a thick blanket on the mattress topper. We are unusual sleepers in our home. We sleep on the bedspread with separate duvets. My husband steals blankets. Obviously he is a restless dream. He always took my side of the blanket and every night I would wake up cold. I usually keep a separate blanket at the foot of the bed, but I'm tired of waking up from the cold to get an extra blanket. So we sleep with our own separate blankets. Now that I'm older I'm hot all the time. So I don't know if the lid adds heat. In any case, this is a good mattress cover. I'd like a zippered mattress pad for protection, but that'll do for now.
