I bought 12 of these plates to use as serving plates for french onion soup or other soups. CorningWare is known for its high quality and they are no exception. What I love most about this design is that it's different enough from regular soup plates to spark some interest, it's easy to use, and it's the perfect portion size. And thanks to the lid, you can easily reheat leftovers or take them to work the next day. As a bonus, they also have a low price. It's worth noting that while they're safe to use in the microwave and oven, the mugs say 'do not fry'. Your mileage may vary, but I've had no trouble melting cheese on French onion soup on the high heat in my oven. I assume using the grill for 2-3 minutes is perfectly fine (especially if the contents are already hot), but I would avoid the grill for anything significantly longer.
