I used to have a Good Grips toothbrush holder but it broke so I needed a new one. After extensively searching for the included toothbrush holder, I couldn't find one I liked, so I chose OXO again. This model certainly has improvements including: 1) There are vented holes at the bottom to allow water to drain. The previous model didn't have these vents and could collect mold and water without regular cleaning. SAD! 2) The previous model only held 3 toothbrushes and toothpaste. This model can accommodate 4 people and much more. 3) The previous model had a cup that you held and squeezed to open the toothbrushes and toothpaste. This model has a small tab that you can just open and see everything. There really isn't a proper place to store floss on this model so it doesn't fly out when you open the top compartment, which is a downside for me. . This is great if you want to use traditional manual toothbrushes, but if you use electric toothbrushes like I do, the compartments are too deep and the toothbrush heads fall down and are then difficult to get out. I use Oral-B electric toothbrushes and for this holder to work I stuff the compartments with makeup wedges and it works well because it doesn't absorb water and all the water goes straight to the aerated area to drain off the bottom. However, it is still impractical to change them frequently to avoid dirt accumulation. 5) Like the previous model, this one has fully detachable parts that can be placed in the top dishwasher compartment. Trust me I've tried it on both models and it worked great when cleaned with rinse aid to get rid of those pesky fingertips on the outside of the stainless steel.
