so i used 3 different belt sanders one old master another toshiba and i did a total of 9 floors with belt sanders in 4 years. Master lasted about a floor and a half and did it decently. Toshiba lasted about 1 floor before it really started having tracking issues and something happened to the entire wear plate system which even after replacement seems to have left a 1.2cm thick 64 inch deep groove in the floor which is very noticeable was. This belt sander has already completed 5 floors and 2 decks along with other daily woodworking projects. I'm in the process of replacing the wear plate and brushes so I'm writing this review now as I'm looking for those things, btw I've had this belt sander for about a year and a half. Needless to say, this is the best belt sander I have ever used. Maybe there is better, but it's value for money, I encourage everyone to do better. Everyone, here's a breakdown of the pros and cons compared to other belt sanders I know of. 1. Tracking still works unlike others that required constant adjustment after 1 floor like every 30 seconds, very annoying, Toshiba grinder towards the end required my hand to constantly hold the handle who ever designed this system has, must run. from a cannon. Note that if you press hard on this sander the belt comes out, but when you let go it just doesn't come back all the way, about 1/16 inch from where it was. which is actually quite surprising because others have lost the ability to properly track first. thank the gods, the rest soon died. 2. very well balanced I can hold it very easily with one hand and it doesn't stick to one side unlike others I've used which required constant attention to balance. 3. The cable is very long and I had jammed it twice with 36 grit and it survived! Christ Cracker I don't know what the cord is made of but jesus juice I can't even tell where it happened now unlike the others who cut the cord. 4. Reliability. How do you like the eggs? After 8 hours of grinding, you can use it to make breakfast for dinner and it will keep working. and he will do so for three consecutive weeks. I only use a belt sander for floor projects and have already done 5 floors, 2 decks and siding with it! all others died completely after about a floor and a half. Not to mention that I use it almost every day in my workshop for one thing or another. 5. Turn it upside down and place it between two 2 x 4's. Its flat top and cable arrangement allows for this. not so with other belt sanders I have used. Cons Notes on Makita 1. Hey Makita. the dust extraction clogs too quickly compared to others, even 100 grit can clog. However, just hook up a vacuum and that seems to fix the problem even with 36.2 grit. Cable. Hey Makita, how about a 1ft path to guide the cable up, down, left, right, launch, choose, error free win! 3. Not entirely sure the Makita will be able to improve on weight without sacrificing reliability, but keeping it on the surface is tiring. Hey Makita, fund purely scientific research into particle physics in hopes that one day you can add an anti-gravity module to your grinder so that grinder knows how many times it has paid for itself. And if and when this one ever breaks I'll buy another one. I hope this review full of misspellings, bad grammar and punctuation helps you make the right choice.
