We did a 5 day self guided kayak tour on Lake Powell with 10 people and used it as part of our toilet system in combination with a Playberg folding toilet seat and Cleanwaste dishwashing bags. I draped a plastic bag over the seat and tied the corner, just like a trash bag in a trash can. Hanging bags have a similar desiccant pre-packaged at the bottom, but I put a lid on the toilet so the group can use the same bag multiple times. I've had people add powder along the way. I changed my bag every night. It doesn't have a deodorizing smell, with the lid on the toilet and away from storage the smell stayed faint - not sure how that would work in a confined space unless you have a fairly tight-fitting lid. I then transferred the used hanging bags into the airtight ziplock bags (which come with the hanging bags) and into the sealed canister I had. I asked people not to urinate into the bag to avoid too much liquid. When I later moved the packages back I got no liquid or any leak. The powder has served its purpose. other people have mentioned similar products that you can find at RV supply stores. I'm not sure there's a cheaper, more generic, mass-produced product that could be cheaper if you use it regularly, but for my trip this pack was more than enough. More next time!
