I bought this because I was interested in a standalone video surveillance system that uses analog cameras instead of IP cameras so it doesn't depend on my home wifi. I chose this one based on previous reviews and my own research. In short, installation and setup was easy as the cameras have a BNC connector and are basically plug and play. The dash cam also has an ethernet port which I connected to a nearby router so I can control the cameras from my iPhone using their app. The application is normal, albeit clumsy. My DVR came with a 1TB hard drive. Under the lid it looks like a standard Toshiba drive and can easily be swapped out for a larger HHD if you need more storage. I currently have 3 out of 4 cameras connected and they work well for standard fixed equipment. cameras. Good resolution, good night vision. I save the 4th slot for a PTZ camera to place it in a place where I want to set up automatic surveillance with the DVR. I have not yet connected any speakers or microphones to audio or set up this device to send email notifications, but I have instructions that I received from Eileen at Sansco Customer Service. FYI - she is very helpful. I had questions for her several times and she replied to me within one business day. For those who want to paint their cameras I covered two of them with white primer and then a few coats of top coat. I just used masking tape to cover the glass. worked fine
