Review on The Ultimate Camping Companion: Coghlan's Backpacker's Trowel Unveiled by Mike Walters

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Lighter than advertised, very durable

This won't last forever - it has a thin plastic tip that will break through rocks over time. But if you're careful, it'll take a while and it's easier than advertised. Mine weighed 1.7 ounces (listed as 2 ounces). Seems like a small difference, but they add up. Nice to see something on the brighter side. If you use this a lot in wet/loamy soils you might want to bring a plastic bag to carry it around. The shape of the back has several deep grooves that are difficult to clean well in the field. It has a hanging hole if you want to keep it out of your backpack, but then it just flaps around. Most backpacks have an external pocket for quick access items and I store them in a gallon zip along with biodegradable TP and hand sanitizer. An added benefit is that light rain won't ruin your TP!
