What a step up!: Vehicles

So I flew a well established non GPS quadcopter with a 720p camera and it was a great experience piloting the ship with precision. Unfortunately the motor stalled last week and I'm not ready to play around to figure out if the motor is dead or the problem is with the ESC. Also, I longed to upgrade to a more advanced machine. Enter the Potensic D58 (after A LOT of research and price/feature comparisons). It arrived today and I've had 1.5 battery flight times and I love it! Obviously this is mostly a first impressions review and I'm hoping to write an update after exploring all the features, but I'll share what I've learned tonight. By the way, there is a slight gusty wind on the ground (WeatherBug says 6mph average) and I had to take a break when a light drizzle came through. After pairing with the controller and phone, I manually took off and it immediately hovered at around 1.5m. I had it at low speed and the wind fought a bit as I climbed higher, but I was always in control. The Return Home feature has worked like magic on numerous occasions; Every time I land within a meter of the center of my landing pad. Turning and direction changes feel a bit annoying compared to my cheaper, smaller drone, but maybe I just need to develop a lighter touch. I accelerated to high speed, climbed 50 meters and saw a world I had never seen before; it was amazing (I have no idea what the estimated 250m vertical range is). Which brings me to the camera, what a stunning difference between 1080p and 120Β° FOV. Even in gusty winds, the video was fairly stable; Most of the judder came from my flying skills! I love the 90Β° tilt of the gimbal - looking straight down really changes the perspective. I had a moment where the drone started circling in wobbly circles (a phenomenon I think has the quaint name of 'toilet bowling'), but the return home function sure crashed it, though I did I may have had to try harder to restore manual control. Oh, the RTH function has a great feature: before the drone lands, it hovers at a height of about 1.5 meters for a few seconds. I suspect this allows you to take manual control if he decides to land somewhere stupid or dangerous. The only other feature I briefly explored is the Follow Me feature. Yes, if I wasn't so elusive. In general, a very pleasant first acquaintance with my new toy!
